Center for Dermatology Cosmetic and Laser Surgery offers a number of unique services not readily available elsewhere in the Bay Area. Over many years we have developed special expertise in these areas and will be happy to discuss them with you.
Acne Scar Correction
The scars that can result from inflammatory acne leave lasting physical and emotional marks. Your dermatologist has the background and the tools to treat acne scars. Dermatological treatment of acne scarring is determined based on a few factors and decided upon after a thoughtful discussion. Some of the factors that we take into account when planning individualized treatment include severity of scarring, the age of the patient, medical history, the type of scar, amount of skin pigmentation, and the patient’s tolerance for certain therapies.
There are many factors that can lead to unwanted facial pigmentation. For instance, the hormonal effects of oral contraceptives or pregnancy may lead to this condition. In some cases where hormones are the underlying cause, skin tone may naturally even out over time. However, we offer a variety of services that can facilitate the recovery of even, beautiful skin.
For hyperpigmentation such as melasma, we may use some form of Hydroquinone or Kojic acid in combination with Retin-A to lighten dark spots. To accelerate the process, we may also include chemical peels or microdermabrasion in the treatment plan.
Hyperpigmentation such as age spots and freckles respond well to various modalities such as laser treatment or liquid nitrogen. Freckles and age spots can sometimes be difficult to fully eliminate and may require multiple treatment sessions for optimal results. During your consultation, your dermatologist will assess the various methods available, determining the most appropriate course based on your individual needs as well as the characteristics of your skin.
XTRAC Laser and Phototherapy in the treatment of Psoriasis, Vitiligo, and other conditions
At Center For Dermatology Cosmetic And Laser Surgery, we pride ourselves on incorporating proven technology into patient care. The FDA-approved XTRAC® Laser is one example. This modality has been designed specifically for the reduction of symptoms related to mild to moderate psoriasis and vitiligo. There are several benefits to the XTRAC® Laser treatment. Each session takes only a few minutes to complete, and results come without having to apply topical creams. In addition to greater convenience, this treatment also addresses only active lesions, leaving healthy skin fully intact. The benefits from multiple XTRAC® Laser sessions will last several months.
UVB Phototherapy, administered in our comfortable clinical setting, applies artificial narrow band UVB light to the skin for a set length of time. Sessions are scheduled at regular intervals, slowing the growth of affected skin cells for clearer, more comfortable skin.
